CBD for Pet Anxiety from Fireworks —

Cannabidiol can be just as effective in pets as in humans for treating symptoms of anxiety, especially around July 4th. Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is a member of a family of compounds known as cannabinoids – which are derived from the cannabis plant. The biggest difference is that pure CBD contains only an extremely trace amount of THC, not nearly enough to cause any psychoactive effect. In this article, we will discuss how CBD can help treat anxiety in pets during fireworks season.

It is very common for pets to fear the sounds of fireworks as they can be loud, booming, screeching, and sudden. Pets have excellent hearing, and these noises can sound like a war. This can make many pets particularly uneasy and, in some cases, even hysterical. Some symptoms can include heavy panting, pacing about, trembling, crying, uncontrolled urination/defecating, and aggression. No pet should ever have to feel like that. Luckily, CBD has shown to be effective in helping to alleviate some of these symptoms.

How does CBD work in pets?

All mammals have an endocannabinoid system which is responsible for keeping the body balanced. Once unbalanced, the endocannabinoid system needs a boost to kick-start those receptors which help maintain homeostasis. This is where CBD comes in. CBD attaches itself to and activates the receptors to help recover balance. Whether it’s anxiety, pain, nerve issues, sleep issues…CBD can help!

As mentioned earlier, CBD does not produce a “high” and therefore will not have a negative impact on your pet. The only noteworthy side effect is lethargy, and this will generally only occur if you’ve given your pet way too much CBD. It is important to note that even in this case, it will not harm your beloved fur baby.

How to administer CBD to your pet

The best way to give your pet CBD is to drop it directly on their tongue or into their mouth. Some pets, however, may not allow this so mixing it in their food, on a treat, or with peanut butter can work as well. It is not advised to put in their water or a liquid as oil and water do not mix and your pet will most likely not get the serving they need.

In regard to serving size, it depends on the weight of your pet. Green Balance CBD recommends 1mg of CBD for every 10 lbs. For example, a 65 lb. dog should benefit from 7mg of CBD.

It is fairly well-known that pets metabolize much faster than humans (you’ve no doubt heard the term “dog years”). It is because of this that CBD can work very quickly when administered to your pet. Some pet owners report results in as little as 5-10 minutes.

You know your pet best so keep a close eye after administering to see how he/she reacts and adjust the serving size as necessary if needed.

CBD and other symptoms

Along with anxiety, CBD can help your pet with joint pain, arthritis, suppress cancer cell growth, epilepsy/seizures, loss of appetite, nausea, and more. CBD oil can be a healthy (and even lifesaving) alternative for your pet. More and more pet owners and holistic vets are drawn to its diverse and marked health benefits and they feel good knowing the side effects are few and mild, and animals don’t appear to build up a tolerance.
