Open Your Mind —

In recent years there has been much debate on the efficacy and benefits of CBD and hemp products. Even though it’s from an all-natural plant, it’s still getting negative connotation. In this article, we will discuss CBD/hemp and its rivals. The time has come to open your mind.

Pharmaceuticals

Since the dawn of doctors and medicine, there have been many man-made substances to “help” with human ailments. Many of these substances have numerous side effects and only work only in some individuals. These drugs are filled with chemicals and other foreign ingredients which can do harm to our bodies over time. It is for these reasons that many Americans are seeking out more natural alternatives.

It is worth noting that some pharmaceutical drugs can be necessary and useful in extreme/immediate  situations. What we are talking about is the use of these drugs over extended periods of time.

Dopesick

Dopesick (a term coined to describe the dependence on certain pharmaceutical drugs) is an American drama miniseries based on the non-fiction book Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company that Addicted America. The riveting miniseries focuses on “the epicenter of America’s struggle with opioid addiction” across the U.S. It shows how individuals and families are affected by it and the alleged conflicts of interest involving Purdue Pharma and various government agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration and the United States Department of Justice. It concludes with the legal case against Purdue Pharma and their development, testing and marketing of the drug OxyContin. This documentary is eye-opening and worth the watch.

Foods

Our bodies weren’t meant to ingest synthetic, man-made substances. Instead, we are meant to eat what Mother Earth provides. However, we’ve all eaten foods without looking at ingredients, or not caring what the ingredients are. It’s difficult to get around that, especially in today’s society.

Why is there a “health food section” in our grocery stores? It is because most the rest of the items in the store are the opposite. Healthy foods are generally more expensive so it’s easy to buy cheaper items or sale items. There are high levels of preservatives and bio-engineered ingredients (or GMOs, genetically modified organisms) in much of the foods we eat. For example, a McDonald’s hamburger and fries can last 5+ years. As unbelievable as that seems, you can read the full article here. Ingesting foods with these types of ingredients lends itself to disease, obesity, diabetes, poor heart health, high blood pressure, etc.

I think we can all agree that many of the foods we eat and pharmaceuticals we ingest are not good for us. So then why do so many Americans turn their noses when presented with healthy options like hemp? Hemp has been around for ages and isn’t the “newest fad” in healthy alternatives. There has been much research and studies showcasing the benefits of the plant. Constant education is key to understanding how hemp can work in conjunction with our internal systems. If you want to open your mind to hemp, there is a whole new world waiting for you here!
